Behavior analytics, visitor feedback, and user research
Hotjar and Contentsquare
Hotjar became part of Contentsquare on 1 July 2025. The supplied Hotjar product and pricing pages now redirect to Contentsquare, where former Hotjar capabilities are presented across product areas. This matters to buyers: evaluate the current Contentsquare offer and your account's status rather than assuming that the older Hotjar plan names or signup flow remain unchanged.
Three related but different jobs
Behavior analytics: Heatmaps summarize interactions on a page; session recordings (called replays in Contentsquare) let a team inspect individual journeys. These help identify where visitors click, scroll, or appear to encounter friction.
Visitor feedback: Surveys and feedback prompts collect direct responses from visitors. Use them to ask a focused question about an observed behavior; response volume and feature access depend on the selected product and plan.
User research: Contentsquare's current terminology maps Hotjar Engage to User Research for moderated interviews. This is a different method from passive analytics or an on-page feedback widget, and should be selected when a team needs richer task or decision context.
Products, plans, and limits
Contentsquare describes separate Experience Analytics, Voice of Customer, and Product Analytics areas, with Free, Growth, Pro, and Enterprise plans available across its products. Its documentation explains that session and replay limits vary by plan, and the updated offer can differ from the legacy Hotjar package. Do not assume that a free plan includes every survey, feedback, interview, or analytics capability; check the live pricing page and plan-specific documentation for the product and usage level you need.
For existing Hotjar customers, migration timing and options can depend on account notices and transition status. New visitors to the old pricing URL are routed to Contentsquare. Verify which account, product terms, billing, and data settings apply before setting up a new workflow.
Who should consider Hotjar / Contentsquare?
The current Contentsquare suite may fit teams that want to combine behavior analysis with visitor voice or structured user research, and are prepared to select and configure the relevant product areas. It may not suit buyers seeking only a simple legacy Hotjar subscription without first checking the new product transition, or those who need dedicated A/B testing as the primary tool. For experimentation, compare VWO / Wingify; for a separate free behavioral analytics option, see Microsoft Clarity.
Privacy and research practice
Recordings, survey answers, and research sessions can contain user-provided or personal information. Review current masking, permissions, retention, consent, and account migration settings before collecting data. For interviews and surveys, explain the research purpose appropriately and handle responses under your organization's policies. Vendor-provided privacy controls do not establish whether a particular setup meets your legal or contractual requirements.
